Step 1 - Starting Out
Create a new document. Make it 600x600, and fill the background with a bright yellow (f4f8d6). Step 2 - Selection and Filling
Make a new layer. Create a selection using the marquee tool. Make it a fixed size of 550x600 pixels. Fill this section in with pure white. Step 3 - Selection and Filling
Make a new layer. Next, make a new selection with the fixed size of 530x100 pixels. Give some padding of 10px from the top and left to make it center correctly. Fill that selection with a nice pink/red color (ee435d). Step 4 - Selection and Filling
Make a new layer. Make another selection, but this time have it set to the fixed size of 530x25px. Do the same thing with the padding, and then fill it in with a dark grey color (353a3a). Step 5 - Selection and Filling
Make a new layer. Make yet another selection, but this time change it to have a fixed size of 130x25px. Do the same thing with the padding, and then fill it in with a stale green color (bce07e). Step 6 - Selection and Filling
Make a new layer. Create another selection, but this time change it to have a fixed size of 130x150px. Align it to the bottom of the block we made in step 5, but attach it to the bottom side of it. Fill this in with the same color (bce07e), then change the transparency of the layer to 20%. Step 7 - Border
Create another new layer. With the pencil tool and a 1px dot, create a border on the edges of the rectangle made in step 6. Do not mark on the white part of the image, just the outside of the 20% transparent green block. Step 8 - Duplicating and Positioning
Duplicate the 3 layers you just made for the block, and then position them 10px under the top content box. Step 9 - Selection and Filling
Make a new layer and create one more selection with a fixed size of 380x445px. Now align it 20px to the left of the content boxes, and 10px below the dark grey bar. Now fill it in with a very light grey (f3f3f3) color. Step 10 - Body Border
Change your foreground color to pure black. Make a new layer. Now with the pencil tool, stroke the outer sides of the white body area vertically. Once you do this on both sides, change the layer's blending mode to Overlay. This will help make the body stick out a bit more, and give it a shadow-like stroke. Done... With Step 1 (BURNED!)
Hopefully you're not tired yet. You're 1/4 the way there to creating a fresh layout. Grab a soda and continue to the Clean Layout Tutorial Part 2.
